Restaurant Review

Johnny Rockets

One of my favorite restaurant it must be Johnny Rockets. I mean I know it is not like a classy restaurant or anything like that, but it’s a really fun place to go and it has really good food. Johnny Rockets it’s like a fast food restaurant but a little bit more gourmet than the typical fast food place. They mainly serve Burgers with fries and they are something special. It’s an American themed restaurant like in the 60’s and placed in route 66 so it has a very special and unique atmosphere. I recommend the cheddar and bacon fries to start off and then every burger in the menu is exquisite. This place has a very unique style of serving people, the waiters are extremely nice with you, for example when you arrive at the place everybody has to yell HELLO, same when you leave and the GOODBYE. Also, they sometimes dance in front of you as you eat, I think is just too much fun in one place. Finally, one of the best features of this place is the drinks. You can refill your drink as many time as you want without extra charge! It’s amazing, I recommend it 100%.

Last Blog

I had a really good English base from my school and also I studied a year at "Chileno Britanico" institute so personally more than learning new things here at University I think the classes have helped me to practice more than learning which is really nice because the last time I studied English was a long time ago. Another thing that this class made me notice is the little I know how to write things properly. For example in every blog I did there was more than a few words that I misspelled at first and certainly in this one it will happen again. I also noticed that my pronunciation could be a lot better because talking now in classes I realized that some words that I use in my daily base in English I tend to "Chilenizarlas" a lot. For example I play a lot of video games with friends online and most of the time to communicate with other players of the world you have to speak in English, so we got used to and now when we play we always talk in English among us. In most games you can purchase Items, and we always pronounce it wrong. We say "e-tems" instead of items, so for sure being here helped me realize that I had to change that.  I think the best way of practicing this for me is to keep playing online games with my friends because you don’t only you practice your speaking but also you always learn a new term for something. I personally love to speak in English because I’m lazy as hell and every word or sentence is shorter in English than in Spanish, so sometimes I’m thinking something to myself and suddenly I realize that I’m thinking in English. My sister works for an international company so every paper she gets it’s in English, and sometimes she is really busy and asks me for help and I spend hours translating them for her, even though she has a similar level of English than me. I plan to read some Architecture papers in English because I really don´t know almost any technical word in English and I think it’s very important that we as Architects know at least how to use some concepts in English which is like the father of business languages with Chinese, so I think we should know at least one of those to communicate with people around the world.

Program Changes

The first thing that comes to my mind in this topic it's the lack of computer programs knowledege in first year students. I know that drawing is very important in this career but nowadays most of the people who work in this matter use Computer Programs to make their work therefore it's the most common "language" in the world of architecture. Now I don't think they should only teach how to use these programs, I think in first year you should be able to draw a lot of things but you also should be able to work in "Autocad" for example because I have a lot of friends that are in second year and they practically do everything by computer, so entering second year without knowing any of the basics  could be diffcult.

About the hours you need in order to study I think they sometimes might be a little excesive but normally it's fine. In my personal case this helped me a lot because the cuantity of hours you need to put into a project are a lot, so if you don´t organize yourself well enough you probably will be short in time. I used to study engineering and it was a mess. Sure I had to study a lot too but I never had so little time to do things, so most of the time I just kept delaying things just beacuse I had the choice to to do it. Now I am a lot more organized.
I have to say that Im not very aware of the curriculm because I changed to the new one this year and it's kinda messy at the moment, but when the university told us about the new one for me it sounded better than the old one because some of the subjects from the old one disappeared so now we have a little more time for ourselves and the length of the career is shorter.

Tom Hanks

My favourite artist.

I can't really think of any artist I really admire but if I have to pick a favourite one it would be Tom Hanks. Tom Hanks is an American actor and Film Maker mostly known for his roles in Forrest Gump and Cast Away, 2 of my favourite movies. I really like the way he acts. Personally I think he is one of the best actors in the world because he can transmit to you every emotion and it's actually pretty convincing. I don't really know if the movies he works in are specially good for me or it's just his acting but I can say with certainty that every time I see him on the screen I know I will enjoy the movie and have a really good time. I remember one of the first movies I saw of him was "Catch me if you can", a movie that tells the story of a proffesional scammer played by Leonardo Dicaprio who is constatly running and messing around with the police officer that had his case assigned who was played by Tom Hanks.

After I saw this movie which I really enjoyed I started looking for some more films of Tom Hanks and ended up watching Forrest Gump. I have a lot of friends that think Forrest Gump is extremly slow and boring, personally I liked every second of it. The acting of Hanks really got me on that movie and I just don't know how people found this movie boring, It's a beautiful story about overcoming your dificulties and never giving up. Nowadays I don't watch many movies or T.V. shows so I don't know any of his new movies. For example I didn't watch "Davinci Code" and honestly I don´t think I will. I think all artists start getting worse with time because of the media they are involved in, some of them for money will accept some roles that end up being simply bad, so I prefer to have the memory of a good actor who always maneged to get in my mind when he acted. Even though I know he is a good actor I rather stay with his earlier performances because you know:

Summer Holidays

I would like to spend my summer vacations in a little place called Matanzas. Matanzas it's a beach located in the VI region near Santo Domingo and I used to go there all summer when I was a child because my grandmother has a little cabin right in front the sea. Matanzas was a really small and unknown place until a couple of years ago so we knew everybody there. Funny thing is that my grandmother had a group of friends who used to vacation there always. My parents turned out to be friends with the sons of my granmother's friends and when I was like 7 or 8 years old I met the children of my parent's friends and we also became really good friends. I like this place because I know almost everybody there and with my friends we spent most of the day surfing, and I love surfing. It's been 2 years since I went the last time and I really want to see my friends again. It's awesome because we are 3 generations of friends so there are times we hang out like 40 or 50 people in one house and have a good time. One of my friend's dad loves to do huge barbecues for all our friends and family so I can´t wait to eat one of his famous "Cordero al palo" which is a Lamb cooked slowly on a bonfire, and have a good talk with my friends to catch up with them. Finally there's a place called Puertecillo near Matanzas that I want to visit. It has this vive of a lost beach where people never ever goes and it's awesome. The waves are perfect to surf and it's a really calm and safe place where you can go camping or just enjoy a picnic.

Vacation

So my best vacation was in the summer of 2010 when I went with my family and some friends to United States. First we arrived on Orlando and immediately we took a cruise to Miami for 1 week. Even though we went to Disneyland later I think the cruise was the highlight of the whole trip. I remember the first thing I noticed was that it had free food 24/7. At the time I was 15 so I wasn't allow to enter the casino or had any type of drink so the free food was like heaven in earth and pretty much my source of entertainment. If I was bored or couldn't sleep at night I used to go and order a pizza or an icecream. Another great thing about the cruise and United States in general was that their breakfast is super tasty and satisfying. For example here in Chile I'm used to eat a toast with juice or coffe and that's it. In United States people eat scramble eggs with bacon besides the toast juice and cereal. I love bacon so waking up in the morning was actually a good feeling even though I hadn't slept well the night before.

Later we wen't to Disneyland and it was really awesome. It's like Fantasilindia but infinite times better. The best park was Universal Studios becouse it has one of the best roller coaster of the entire world. It's called the hulk and it's so fast and violent that most of my family and friends dind't want to get in. Of course I did and I recommend it 100 %. It's fun and different from what we are used to. If you have the chance to do it please don't hasetate because if you miss the opportunity to do it you will hate yourself for the rest of your life.

Country I'd like to visit

A country I'd really like to visit is New Zealand:

Since I saw Lord of The Rings I have always wanted to visit New Zealend especially for the great Landscapes that are shown in the Lord of The Rings movies. I really don't know much about New Zealand but I got a couple of friends from school that lived some years there and they always are saying how much of a great time they had while living in there. I know that it's located in Oceania and the most common language is English.

The main reason I would  like to visit New Zealand is that I saw on T.V there is a tour called "Lord of The Rings tour" that takes people around all the important Lord of The Rings film spots. As I mentioned in the beginning of the post, when I first saw a Lord of The Rings movie I was shocked by the beauty of the movie's Landscape, so it would be awesome to be in that same place. Also besides all the touristic thing, I'd really like to study there, maybe in an exchange program or something like that.
